Katalox Light 1 Cubic Foot
KATALOX LIGHT® is a high-performance catalytic filtration media engineered in Germany for the removal of iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide, and a wide range of heavy metals and contaminants in drinking water systems. The media utilizes a unique manganese dioxide (MnO₂) coating process that enhances oxidation, catalytic reactions, and filtration performance.
Designed for residential, commercial, municipal, and industrial applications, KATALOX LIGHT® combines high filtration efficiency with long service life and reduced operational costs. Its lightweight structure and advanced catalytic surface allow it to outperform many traditional filtration media used for iron and manganese removal.
Filtration Performance
KATALOX LIGHT® provides filtration down to less than 3 microns and effectively removes:
- Suspended solids
- Sediment
- Turbidity
- Organic contaminants
- Color and odor
The media is widely used in water treatment systems where high contaminant loads require strong catalytic oxidation and mechanical filtration.
Contaminants Reduced
KATALOX LIGHT® is designed for removal or reduction of:
- Iron (Fe)
- Manganese (Mn)
- Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S)
- Arsenic
- Radium
- Heavy metals
- Radionuclides
When paired with an oxidant such as hydrogen peroxide, chlorine, or potassium permanganate, the catalytic surface accelerates oxidation reactions that convert dissolved contaminants into filterable particles.
Features
High manganese dioxide coating (~10%) that provides powerful catalytic oxidation.
Filtration capability down to approximately 3 microns for improved removal of suspended solids and turbidity.
High iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide removal capacity.
Lightweight media compared to traditional manganese greensand and other filtration media.
High resistance to oxidants and chemicals commonly used in water treatment.
Long service life typically ranging from 7 to 10 years under proper operating conditions.
Lower backwash water requirements compared to many competing media.
Free of crystalline silica.
No mandatory chemical regeneration requirements.
System Operating Conditions
